Prepare yourself...
Aug. 3rd, 2006 12:00 pmSo, my birthday is pretty much going to be epic. I mean, it's me.. turning 20 - is there a dimension of the universe where that is not mind-blowing?
Currently, I'm in discussions of whether or not to "pony"-up. That could help with the epic-ness of the event, however.. I'm hesitant entirely based on selfish reasons. While my tastes are definitely warming up in that area, I don't know about my stomach.
ANYWAY.
Last night Sam found out that she got a real job so a whole bunch of us hung out at Laughing Planet/Sweet Life. It was me and 6 college gradutes. Geez did I feel like a baby. It was really exciting to listen to them talking about plans and, as Heidi put it, "Big Girl Jobs." However, it was rather jarring to think about that down the line and also a little bittersweet because all of those people aren't going to be here anymore.
This is what you get for having older friends. Really, I feel like not only am I leaving teenage years behind, I'm leaving that "young" threshold in APO time. I mean, I'm probably considered APO-old by plenty of folks already but next year I will definitely be a dinosaur. I'm not sure who will be active that pledged before/with me. What's funny is that I still have 3 years. Yikes. But anyway, really what that means is that I will need to start taking the "youngin"s (some who are actually older than me) under my wing and helping them along. Someday, I will have my little proteges sitting around the table while I discuss moving into the world. I'm just glad that's a long way off. It's not because I'm afraid so much as I feel like there is still so much I really need to do/see/experience in college. I'm glad I still have time.
Speaking of college/random commitments... the radio show wasn't half bad yesterday. Here's a 5 song playlist of things I'm now enjoying:
1. Thom Yorke - Harrowdown Hill
2. The Knife - We Share Our Mother's Health [Ratatat Remix]
3. Cut Chemist - The Garden
4. Junior Boys - In the Morning [feat. Andi Tomi]
5. Oh No! Oh My! - I Have No Sister
I know Thom Yorke is cliche for a college radio show, but it's still a good song. Oh No! Oh My! pretty much just sounds like Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!/Wolf Parade/Indie Pop etc. so I enjoy it, of course. The other three songs are just frikkin' hot tracks good for any time of the day when you want to have a private dance party.
I'm actually going to hit up a few concerts in the not to distant future:
Devotchka - WOW Hall 8/15 (Polka-rock: Yeah, that sounds weird but it is awesome)
The Thermals - WOW Hall 8/25 (Local-rock: These guys (from Portland) are amazing. I saw them last year, and lost my shit on a Wednesday night)
Band of Horses - WOW Hall 10/6 (!!!!!!!: Just amazing)
Sufjan Stevens - Crystal Ballroom 10/13 (Folky/Indie Rock: Should be a relaxing evening.)
Xiu Xiu - WOW Hall 11/5 (Electro-rock: This should just be fabulously entertaining).
Anyway, I'm trying to spend as much time with as many people as possible. So if anyone is around and needs someone to hang out with or entertain them, I'm generally available for a very reasonable, nonexistant fee.
