I haven't done a poll in awhile so I felt it was time to take advantage of this fun paid-account feature since I can.
This is a topic that has been intriguing me for awhile. I have a hypothesis that most people area pretty black & white when it comes to 90s pop music - they used to love it or hate it, or were too terrified to admit one or the other and risk alienating all of their friends. I also think that 80s/90s culture seems to be making a weird comeback maybe thanks to VH1's "I Love the ___" specials (ok, I love that show. Michael Ian Black is fuggin' awesome and Mo Rocca rock-as my sock-as.) I just seem to be hearing that "old" stuff more and more. I remember being morally horrified by current pop music in middle school - I'd probably kill someone if they accused me of liking a boy band or one of the teen queens at the time. I think I wanted to be all indie/emo and not like things because they were trendy.
Now it seems I've grown a really weird sense of humor for that music (oy... nostalgia for the "good ol' days"?). At the carolling/cookiei party.. I kept joking we should sing Britney songs. I have "Toxic" in my music folder - I don't care, it's hella-catchy and a LOT of people have it too (I checked over iTunes file-sharing and I was shocked!). Anywayyy.. I'm bored. If your're bored - fill this out.
[Poll #412408]
For the record I have the self-titled Backstreet Boys album. Yes, I admit it but I didn't buy it. I got it as a birthday gift :\.. same year I got Celine Dion's CD with the "Titanic" song as a gift. That was a messed up birthday. The next year someone with a sick sense of humor me got Pokemon's "2 B A Master" sountrack as a gift... wtf. People teased me whenever they saw my CD case.. e-tears* ;_; I eventually learned to keep those things in a dark corner of my closet (I'm on a common sense learning curve sometimes: takes up space + don't listen to + totally embarrassing should automatically = THROW AWAY IMMEDIATELY! Maybe I have some kind of sick penchant for being teased..)

Date: 2005-01-04 03:02 am (UTC)Early ninties/late eighties were quite different times than the mid/late nineties.
Fashion was awful (WOO LEGGINGS!) but the music was better.

Date: 2005-01-04 04:17 am (UTC)In middle school I was one of those girls who had like, 100 backstreet boy and nsync posters. I even wrote a story for my gifted and talented class in which I was married to Kevin Richardson from the Backstreet Boys, and his 'friends' would come over every night and impulsively sing in our living room. I was such a nerd.
