Ok, so I should probably update...
Dec. 20th, 2004 02:54 amWow, I haven't updated in awhile. I don't know how busy I've actually been but I guess busy enough. So let's see what has happened. I'll cut it into chunks.
Architecture: A
Microeconomics: A+
Physics: B
Italian: A
Humanities Colloquium: P
GPA = 3.8; Dean's List
I had a good term. I'm really happy with my grades.
I'm applying to the architecture program. I've been *shockingly* on top of the paper work. I went to SAA on Thursday to make the necessary transcript/recommendation requests. I saw some teachers and some people while I was there. Niki's mom said she would write my third recommendation. I think it's basically guaranteed that I'll get in - I just have to meet all the deadlines and turn in all the crap. I meet all their academic standards - the A in Architecture 201 will look great especially since I'm sure a bunch of Arch. majors got B's. I'm feeling a little unsure about whether it's what I want to do. However, I've decided that if I don't do it now - I will never have the opprotunity; it's a 5 year program and I need to finish it as efficiently as possible since my parents have to send 3 other kids to college.

Niki's cookie party was fun even though it wasn't primarily a cookie party. Caroling was ok - singing for people isn't exactly my thing and after not seeing people for a couple months I was really more interested in catching up than rehearsing carols. I hope Rachel's mom wasn't too annoyed with me but at the moment - talking to Niki seemed a lot more important. After two hours of "practice" we went out for two hours. I sang, I goofed around, but I freaking sang so I get total credit as far as I'm concerned. Afterwards we went to Lai Lai's, it almost got kind of unnecessarily complicated but it worked out. The food was great, the company was better. From there we went back to Niki's, by that time it was 11 - we decorated cookies for about 2 hours (the entire length of Superman 2). The cookies were cool - mine were all gross and morbid: a possessed, bleeding duck, a possessed Mickey Mouse, an evil pig with it's guts leaking out, a bleeding naked man. I made three (note, Nikeh - you forgot TEXAS) non-morbid ones: a pot leaf, a star of David, & a Texas (iced like the Texas flag with a big yellow Christian cross in the middle). There was a butterfly in there too.. I ate a bunch of random little ones that I don't remember now. We spent the next couple hours chillaxing in Niki's room just hanging out, being silly, & talking. It was about 3 AM when everyone just decided to crash there. Good times.
Other than that, I haven't done much except hang out with siblings and play board games. I think I mentioned that I finished my first scarf. I think I'm going to try to knit an iPod case and some Mary Jane slippers. Heck yes.
There are some parties coming up, like... maybe even today or something. I can't remember - I trust someone will call and tell me to get my butt wherever.
OMIGAWD - Mary is now officially legal like.. as of 3 hours ago!!

I've been working on my website some. I cleaned up my Q*Bee quilt (it's a friendship/mutual linking club). I was a pretty crappy member the last couple months thanks to computer issues. I'm also trying to work on the list of ideas I have for my page. I still don't know what I really want to do with it. In the last hour I've tried to reinstall the Oekaki but it's having issues. I'm going to try again tomorrow but the FTPing and CHMODing is giving me a total headache. I did, however, to get one thing done. I think it's pretty cool and I hope other people will think so too. I don't know how many people I can get to use it but some might be interested.
I made an online photo album/hosting site. It's not open to the entire world, just to people I know (specifically those who won't upload huge motherfucking pictures and post them 50 places, eating up all of my bandwidth :D). I haven't installed an auto-thumbnail service yet but I figure some people might like to use it. There are two sections - protected and public so if you don't want everyone who visits my site to be able to see your stuff, you can upload in the protected folder.
All you have to do is click into the section you want to save your picture in and hit the upload button. To direct link, just right-click the picture and copy+paste the url. So anyway -
SAMMEHTOSH.net Photo Gallery & Image Hosting
Just register if your interested, I have to approve all accounts (because I don't want a billion strangers clogging up my site) but I'm always checking my email so it shouldn't be long until you can start uploading pictures.
I thought it would be a cool thing to share pictures too since everyone I know is in like.. a bunch of different places. I know you can always send stuff over AIM but it might be more efficient in terms of making stuff available to more than one person at a time. It supports more file types than you need to worry about (I think movies too). So yeah, make me happy - make an account.
That's all I can think of. I'm reading this book "Sex, Drugs, & Cocoa Puffs" that everyone seems to like. The author is some guy that writes for SPIN which I have a subscription too. I don't know how much I like it. It seems like a book that is trying to hard to be cool - it's got like cult status for some people. The guy kind of rags on Coldplay and goes into these long chapters about MTV's "The Real World," talks about why he hates soccer, and compares racial confict in society to the Celtics vs. the Lakers (it's a whole chapter full of really boring, confusing sports information). I basically can't figure out why people seem to like it so much. It's kind of interesting - the guy's perspective is neat but I don't think it's mine. It's weird because I'm usually so impressionable - I read anything that's backed up logically and I'm like "HECK YES! IT'S MY NEW DOGMA!" but to this book I just feel kind of "feh.." No matter what this guy says, I don't like modern country music. I'm sure it's partially because, like he says, I feel I have to buy into the hipster perspective that it's just not cool. However, there is a difference. I do say "I like everything but country" and I do sometimes mention a few other things that aren't really cool to like. Now, I quasi-secretly have Britney and Avril on my iPod (oh my god - my dirty secret is exposed to the world) but I don't secretly have country on there. I just don't like it. The tunes just don't appeal to me, the lyrics don't so much strike my fancy but lyrics don't need to matter. Nothing about "Toxic" applies to my life but I still think it's frikkin' catchy. Anyway, he states in the preface, in so many words, that he is challenging the way people today think using current pop culture examples. I follow pop culture obsessively, I do hold the mindset he is challenging to many degrees but his attack just hasn't been convicing. I read one of his articles in SPIN on why he liked his iPod. I see a theme in his work - it's just all stuff that makes me say "duh" and/or "why should I care what you think." Anyway.. I haven't finished it yet but I'm shocked because I feel like I should love this book, it's the exact kind of book that would usually become a new bible but so far I'm pretty unimpressed. If anyone has read it - I'm interested in knowing what you think.
