Fun 80s Goodness
Nov. 9th, 2004 05:14 pmOk, so I've gone freaking iTunes crazy. Yeah, it's reallllly bad. REALLY bad. The combonation of being music deprived and chatting up a bunch of music experts has put a rather radical drain on my bank account. However, to my credit $20 of my spending was on an iTunes gift-certificate.. so I had to spend that. In the last 48 hours I've purchased:
- Cake - Fashion Nugget
- Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
- Belle & Sebastian - Dear Catastrophe Waitress
- New Order - International-The Greatest Hits
- The Cure - The Cure: Greatest Hits
Woo for 80s goodness. I'm still teasing with the idea of buying Neutral Milk Hotel's album. They have this badass song, "Untitled" which is a rock-instrumental involving a bagpipe. I can't explain it, but it is hilariously awesome. During the retreat, Anthony was educating me on the history of post-punk and yeah... this is an expensive friendship. He did however offer to let me firewire his powerbook sometime and leech off his music files. I might have to do that...

I've been keeping typically busy. I have a pledge potluck tonight. My Italian oral exam was today, I think Maya & I did really well (we had to have a conversation with eachother). Well, at least our teacher said we did. It was goofy we through in 3 jokes; she joked about hating Italian class, we talked about boys we liked, and then she said "Oui!" instead of "Si!" (something we wrote in because she actually was constantly doing that..) so we covered it up by turning it into a fun fact about other languages we've taken.
My second physics midterm is tomorrow. Ugh, gag me with a spoon. I'm not prepared at all. Har har. I have to read the chapters and get oriented!! Seriously, I'm very behind and I need to do well on this one because I was really unhappy with the grade I got on the last one. Only problem is this material is like 50x harder than last midterm. So yeah... non mi piace la fisica.
Today in my special humanities colloquium class we got a sneak-peak tour of the art museum which has been closed for like.. 5 years or something? It's opening in January. It was really interesting, I've been really digging that class even though it's only once a week. Well, Society of College Scholars in general has been awesome. We get to have an SCS exclusive lecture by one of "America's Premiere Intellectuals," ::cough:: some guy from Harvard. I guess I'll go because I'm special and I can. SCS has given me a lot of special opprotunities, hints, & fun facts. In a way it makes me feel bad because I'm benefiting from a system that disenfranchises less fortunate people. Not to get all democratic-martyrish, well actually, no, to get totally bleeding-heart about this it's sad that I get this opprotunity because I was born into more priviledge. I was able to get a good education which qualified me for access through these secret doors. Goddamn moral struggles. I love the secret doors, I should probably smuggle in a group of the "disenfranchised" so I can appease my aching conscience. Hm.. now where to find a huge trench coat.... But in all seriousness, I do feel like a sucky hypocrite. Oy vey.
In the meantime, my parents are all chipper because *like always* they are reading about what I'm doing instead of asking me ::cough:: facebook ::cough:: livejournal ::cough::. So yeah, omgz shoutoutz mom & dad. I really am pretty happy and it sounds like everyone I know is decently happy. I need to try calling Stephanie again. The big ship-out date is coming soon, I'm so nervous for her.
Everyone should be proud of me for not writing a long sad bitchy post about politics immediately after the election. I burned myself out of politics before coming to school and became enough of a stereotypical unaffected, apathetic, pessimistic young adult that the shattering disappointment wasn't so bone-crushing. However, it has been fabulous to use my past in Texas as a one-upping pawn against others. "Yeah, you think YOU have it bad. I've been under Georgie for as long as I can remember. Four more years will suck but at this point I can't really conceive life being more terrible." I love being a drama queen I thrive on the sympathy of others.
Lala, this is getting random and stupid. Everyone should be happy and do a dance wearing purple pants getting jiggy to the music...
Yeah, I should never try to write hip-hop lyrics. EVAR.
Oh, by the way: my legs have been freaking incredibly sore after soccer. It's SO messed up though, my brain has gone all wonky. Instead of being like "oohhh pain.. soccer boooo," I've been like "WOO SORENESS! WOO SOCCER! I CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE SOCCER." So.. pain has been making me happy. Ack ack ack, not a sado-masochist. I'm already chemically-imbalanced naturally and while at rest. I guess the exercise just kicked in even more endorphins, like I need any more. Haha, I always remember that guy from freshman year who told us that we shouldn't do drugs because we are "naturally high." Oh inside jokes galore after that thing. Anyway, so that's cool.
Today, after the exam Maya came back to my room and *honest to god* we listened to and sang all of the Spice Girl songs (not including the 3rd album that I don't have because they were already swirling down the industry drain at that point). Yeah, she was like "I've never met anyone else that knew all the words before!" LOL. Yeah, I don't know whether to feel cool or totally Lame (yes, that is with a capital L), probably more the latter? Oooh good times.
Cheers, I have to get ready for the potluck.
