Ok, totally RANDOM subject line - I'm aiming for "curb appeal" here. Yes, I know, I write too frikkin' much and everyone I know is some kind of student and thus detests my long winded shpeals that range from the totally giddy to the outright sad.

Ok, so.. lot's of good stuff happening tonight... and yesterday. Yes, it's all pretty good - a little bad but mostly, very good. It's so strange how I always loathe Wednesdays because it's the day that I have the highest stack of crap on my plate to deal with, but somehow - with a little bit of luck and some kind of fairy dust they always turn out spectacular.

Well, I think the last time I updated, it was somewhat of a downer - "Christopher Reeve is dead." Wow. Well, extension of that, "food for thought" if you will - something really interesting happened to me on Tuesday. Like you may or may not know, I have this weird little discussion class called "Humanities Colloquium" which is supposed to be for guest lecturers and field trips to expose us to many different career areas that we might be interested in, but just haven't heard of yet. Well, this week we went to visit the "Special Collections" in the library. The librarian was totally enthusiastic and let us poke an 800 manuscript - his short lecture on the creation and signifigance of books in the middle ages was actually really fascinating. As cool as that was, here is something else that might have more universal "whoa" appeal. Special Collections has all kinds of old and rare books but they also have offbeat documents and scraps of paper as well.

Apparently, some important director/producer went to UO and later went on to found some kind of film conglomeration. Blah blah boring. Well, he was making some movie about Thomas Jefferson and REALLY wanted Reeve for the part. However, Disney considered him to be "washed up" so they wouldn't let him hire Reeve. Well, Reeve REALLY wanted the part so he wrote a letter dictating his desire and potential commitment in Jeffersonian English and signed it as Thomas Jefferson. Disney still wouldn't budge so they cast Nick Nolte instead, Reeve then went off to go ride horses since he didn't get the part. Well, the entire cast and most of the crew were at Cannes Film Festival whooping it up after winning an award for the film and news came that Christopher Reeve had a "grave accident." The important director/producer from UO then wrote across this lamentation on one of those yellow envelopes about not hiring Reeve for the part. The letter, which I read while everyone else was poking the old book, ended "...if only..." This piece of envelope was wrapped around the letter that Reeve sent to the director. Can you believe that? That experience just completely blew my mind for the rest of the day, and even now.. I'm still just in shock over the letter.

The rest of the day only got better. I decided to go on an Alpha Phi Omega service project to the food bank to do a "food rescue." We basically just repackaged stuff into smaller containers from GINORMOUS ones. It was fun and great bonding. The pledge director Anthony hung out with the future pledges while inspected apples. There were lots of silly, bad jokes about the "fruits of our labor" and Anthony, who had to take the yucky apples and put them in a bucket, asked aloud "why do I get all the bad apples." Har har. So yes, much fun.. Anthony showed me his iPod and we talked about music, today I showed him mine. Yeah, iPod sharing is one of those fundamental trust boundaries for me because I have SO MUCH weird crap just wedged in there. Mp3's from 7th grade, CDs from 4th, soundtracks with artists like "Wayne Newton." Argh, yeah - but he didn't give me grief about it. The ride there was a bit uncomfortable in this girls compact where my knees were by my nose and rubbing on the dashboard. Damn my height! ::fist shake:: The ride back was cool because we went in this other guy, Dave's car with Anthony. They were listening to the STROKES and just joking around. Very cool.

Today started off a tad disappointing. EDWARDS, JOHN. YES. He came to campus at 12:30, I HAD TICKETS TOO. However, once I decided that skipping Italian just this once was worth it (hey, it already caused me to miss DEAN!, ... Howard. Why am I writing names like that?!) So, I checked my bag and went off to find the end of the line. THE LONGEST LINE I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE - it wrapped around and down entire streets, it must have gone for half a mile and it had about 3000 people (at least). Well, I decided that this behemoth would still be there even after Italian (and it was), so I went to Italian. On my way to physics I caught like one snippet of Edwards' speech with his velvety Southern accident. In true Sarah fashion, I promptly forgot what it was. Something about telling the president it was "his last four years," maybe? Ack, well I went to physics and when it was over.. everyone was gone. OH, except for the secret service guys who were blocking of Carson when I was trying to go check my mail. Boo hoo, my mommy sent me a package and it was supposed to come today! I killed time in my dorm room until my physics tutorial - the most pointless class on Earth. The GTfs, they aren't stupid by any means, but they must have brains so chockful of knowledge that they are just like full sponges - they need to be squeezed before anymore knowledge, or simple questions persay, can be absorbed by their porous heads. You ask them simple things and you can see the wheels churning and this... fear, that they don't know the answer or have forgotten English in all of their studying or something crazy, just wells behind their eyes. It takes them a minute to snap to and grunt, "right" or "no..." then another minute to haphazardly in muffled English explain "why not."

After that, I shot over to the Alpha Phi Omega meeting. It was quite long and I stayed for elections because I didn't have anything else to do. OH! I got compliment in the special box for always wearing cool shoes and I GOT CANDY FOR IT! I really like the people more and more each time I go. I'm really shy when I first meet people and I don't really expose my true goofiness until I'm satisfied that I won't get shamelessly mocked by those around me (well at least not mocked only at my own expense). Well, they all seem like they have these really silly sides too and that is what I'm really looking for. A group of people who will still be around for the next 4-6 years that are all goofy but have really good, caring personalities. After it was all over, Anthony and the "Saergent-at-Arms" Dan (they are both officers) invited me to go get ice cream with them. So I went and we chatted, played basic 20 questions, and I had ice cream called "Velvet Hammer." It was like cinammon with coffee and it was crazy-delicious. They even walked me back to Walton and we had great conversation the whole time. I'm really glad I went with them. I know this is a great group and one that I was like, destined to belong to- I'm pledging on Friday.

Hooray for good times. I hope everyone is super-fantastic-mondo-incredible. I had Pocky yesterday and "Velvet Hammer" (that is the most bad-ass name for an ice cream, EVAR) so I'm just in this totally bouncy mood.

OH! UO is now on TheFacebook.com and I'm all signed up and stuff. So you should "like totally" add me if you know what's good for you. Even Niki's ROOMMATE added me. So yeah, I'm all "teh shit" and stuff. OH, and I think I accidently rejected someone who I thought I didn't know and actually do know because I wasn't thinking straight. Yeah.... Michelle, was that you? I was like, "WEIRD.. some random Rice person just added me." Anyway, add me and stuff - look me up "Sarah Oaks" at University of Oregon. My picture is a stunning photo tribute to "Amelie", and possibly as suggested several times, to "the Matrix." WOO FOR SPOONS! So yes, fun fun.

I'm done.

Oh, my roommate and I are getting along "swimmingly." We had this totally random conversation for an hour that went from politics and our personal problems with "they system" to actors and their varying levels of "hotness." Yeah, it was crazy-cool. So, today was much happiness. I just hope it lasts!
