Some arcane stuff..
May. 11th, 2004 10:36 pmNothing profound:
My mom and I went to Churasco's today. We ate their for lunch and after inspection, I made a reservation for Saturday at 6:30 for 8. I don't know if we will have 7 or 8, my thinking is that it is easier to remove a chair than add one. Actually, we can cancel if someone thinks of something better, but this late in the game, I felt it was better to have something locked in.
If you haven't been there, what you need to know and how it met my "criteria"-
- Moderate Pricing
My mom had something that was like $10, mine was the same. It was not a small portion (we had leftovers), it's not exactly "cheap" but this isn't lowbrow dining. Its nice, the service was good, the food was worth it. I don't think $10-12 for a "nice" meal is too expensive. If this concerns anyone, please talk to me but don't expect me to pull a miracle out of my butt. This is as close as it comes.
- Food
The food was really good. There is something for everyone, seriously. The food is very NOT bland, wow.. incredibly flavorful, tangy, spicy - Steph will love it. She loves spicy stuff. There is even a specific "vegetarian" selection ($8, & we even checked to make sure we weren't just looking at the lunch menu). Mary can have "soggy cake" aka Tres Leches too. I thought it was good. Who cares what the boys think, lol.
- Location
We went to the one on Shepherd. It was about 3.5 miles. In the nasty awful rain, it took about 20 minutes; not an awful commute. It's in, for lack of better words, a "strip mall" not really. There is a grocery store, some small stores, etc. and they all share one big parking lot, you know? This would be really good for meeting & conglomeration into what, 2 cars? We could leave however many cars there in the lot.. for free and avoid paying parking for all of the cars and the double parking fee of paying twice if we ate downtown.
I think it works. If you have some fundamental hatred for Argentinian food (its not that fancy, I swear! They have plantain chips as a starter and they taste like potato chips. My food came with these odd little fried things that ended up being mozzarella sticks, dude.. trust me.. I'm the FUSSIEST eater ever and I was satisfied) we can talk. Honestly, I think it will work out.
Transportation:
I don't know if anyone is going to do this, I wish someone would just volunteer so I don't have to pick this up too. Anyway, while navigating the commute, we found the entrance to the Rice Hotel - its really hard to find because it is tucked between a soon-to-be Sushi bar & a Chipolte (gross, man). My mom ran inside to check it out. While inside, she saw the little valet wheel-out-y thing with a sign that says $7. So, if someone graciously and lovingly *hint hint* takes this over so I don't have to worry about it.. I can make sure we are clear on the location and basically, the hypothetical valet price is $7 which isn't bad considering downtown at a hotel. If anyone has an alternative transportation plan, please make yourself known and take over this project.
Really all someone needs to do is make sure everyone can get to the restaurant, figure out who is driving the "conglomerated" vehicles there, and make sure drivers have maps. Also, it would be good to check with the people selling prom bids to make sure their aren't any *special* parking arrangements.
I would do it except for I don't think I have a date to worry about and in all the confusion, I might send yours half way across town. Wouldn't that be a shame? Really, it would help out a lot. I know you could just make me do it, but I have a lot to sort out. AHHH. Ramble ramble.
AP gov't tomorrow and I haven't studied. Bad me.
