Wow, I really don't update that often anymore.
Sunday was the Strokes concert and it was so amazing. It was like 10x better. Not that the November concert was bad or anywhere close but the audience was so psyched this time that Jules was all happy and excited.
I think maybe because it was a Sunday, only serious fans committed to attending. It started on time (which was a total shock). The Sounds came out and right after 8. They were pretty good. We were standing in the front area maybe 2/3 of the way back. The keyboardist was cute and awesome - the keyboard added like an 80s-cartoon-battle-sequence feel. Uhm, I think of Transformers, maybe Sailor Moon, or Pokemon. lol. The lead singer, the only girl, was doing high kicks and running around even though she had a micro-mini skirt on. Haha, at one point.. the lights came on in the theater while they were performing and people kept looking around to see what happened. There was only about 35 minutes between sets. All the sudden, some really tall guys came and stood in front of us so we went back a few feet to the bleachers. I was kind of pissed off because why do some stupid guys need to stand in swooning distance? When The Strokes came out, everyone was sooo excited. I was excited. I was like... screaming. I don't know what came over me. Nick has an almost mullet now - its not really because its not short on top, its long everywhere; just the back is longer. Julian's outfit wasn't as cool as last time - the garbage collector shirt was cool. I think he was wearing a suit? He joked about the RCA patch on his jacket and how they "owned his ass" or something. Albert and Nick had suits. Nikolai didn't have a freaky jacket to accentuate his wide, pointy soldiers. He had a t-shirt and so did Fab (as always). I think Albert lost weight but I'm not sure. He has a big head but it is an optical illusion because of his fro'. They played a lot of songs, including "Automatic Stop" and "Alone Together" but they didn't play "12:51" which was weird because it was their first single off "Room on Fire." Highlights included the "ass-owning" bit, people throwing cups of beer off the balcony, Jules slapping Albert & Nick's butts before their solos, him listing some song in Spanish that translates to "We Go to the Beach" (which Niki translated on the spot, but I didn't believe.. I swore it should have something to do with a bar) as the Strokes theme song. They played "New York City Cops" which I'd never heard but I knew was on the single for "Last Nite" on their first album. They also played some Clash song - which was better than that damn song featuring Regina Spektor last time. Julian talked in between each song which was really cool - I looked forward to each slurred comment. They had a cigarette patroller this time, which was cool. After we came back from the Jet concert smelling like we had bathed in an ashtray, Niki & I were glad for it. The funniest part, by far, was at the end when on the last song.. Julian jumped into the audience (like last time) and continued singing. The crowd kept carrying him further back and the security guys were in this frenzy to pull him back. So many people were groping him you could barely see his body. He kept singing the whole time. Eventually when it was over, everyone left the stage except Albert who stuck around to pull Jules back on stage. You could hear him on the microphone saying "Albert come down here. Come down and meet the people. ::Albert does a few high fives hoping to appeal Jules:: No! Come down here! Down here!!" He finally came down, at this point.. you couldn't even see them - there was just frenzy. Jules on the mic the whole time, suddenly announced "now I'm back stage." Niki and I were kind of shocked because we didn't see him disappear.
The concert was over at 11:30 which didn't leave the "scandal" I hoped for the next day at school. I stayed at Niki's house and went to school with her the next morning. We got there a little bit late, just as everyone was going to the assembly. So if you selected "at school at 8 on the dot" or whatever that was, you were right.
Funny story: While we were waiting for Niki's mom to pick us up, we sat on part of the wall in front of the Angelika theater (the Verizon is in the same little complex). While we sat there, some homeless guy tried to hit us up for cash. That was kind of scary and he went on about our "pretty hair." I felt bad because I had money but I was worried if I pulled it out he would see how much, or he would spend it on alcohol. After he left, two guys came up to us. I was kind of freaked out. They asked us what was going on and we told them there was a Strokes concert. They asked us if we'd heard of Usher and I just said "yes" which is true but its not like I can name a song he sings. They were like, "oh. We just wanted to let you know he has a CD coming out tomorrow. ::Gives us little promo cards:: Can we take your pictures with the pamphlets." I just said "yes" figuring it was the fastest way to get them to go away. So now for some reason somewhere, someone has a picture of me & Niki holding Usher pamphlets on a wall.

The speaker we had was really great. I think he really moved a lot of people. Even Westerman liked him which is rare because he hates all the diversity stuff. Maybe I will say more about him later but I want a popsicle and then I'm going to bed. I took a nap from 6:30-9 because I didn't feel well and I'm tired again.
