Lifestyles of the Sammeh and Toshencakes
Oct. 19th, 2003 03:50 pmWow! Last week sucked. This week has the promise of suck by the power of last weeks sucktitude to the tenth!
This weekend has been relaxing.. I guess.
Friday I bought John Mayer "Heavier Things" and the Bend it Like Beckem soundtrack just for Saturday.
Saturday, I got to school at 8 and stayed untill 3:15 ish. I finished the entire cover. WOO HOO!. Around 2 Emily, Liz, and Elisia came. The three most counterproductive annoying people on the paper. I was going insane and Laura was going to leave early and I would be stuck till 5 with only Becca and those three dumbasses. Soo... Laura agreed to drive Becca and we just left. Laura and I like the EXACT same kind of music and the EXACT same songs. We listened to several different genres and she would always mention liking the specific song that I liked. Ok.. this is so gushy and dumb sounding. Not up to my usual caliber of complete sentences and lack of repetion (well.. an effort to avoid). It is just amuses me how much I really didn't like her and now she is someone who I really like having around to work with. We both found it absolutely vital to listen to Texas' "Inner Smile" on repeat. Annnyyyyyyway.
On Friday, I was so ticked off with Mr. W. Over 3/4 of the class was missing because of the choir "Messiah" workshop or the flu. "Oh.. I'm going to lecture anyway.. they can just get the notes from you guys." He then proceeded to:
- Erase the board from yesterday
- Redraw the picture he just erased
- Talk about the same thing he started talking about WEDNESDAY and REVIEWED on THURSDAY
- Spent about 2 minutes on a TINY bit of new material
I was so bored that I wrote all my notes in haiku to save myself from certain death via boredom. They are quite amusing and I am very proud of them. Just for kicks, here are my 17 philosophy haikus. They mostly make sense, start out a tad bitter, and the fact that I could actually count the syllables for each thought should indicate to you how painfully slow and dull he is. Some may have little comments)
-----
For your Enjoyment:
1.
Philosophy is
the pinnacle of dullness
No one hears your screams
(oops, ripped line from "Blue Screen of Death")
2.
Repetition and
Rambling; Philosopher's curse
So very sophomoric
(Mr. W is a wise fool!!)
3.
"The black barn is white
Pretend this white chalk is red."
No simplicity.
(He drew this picture of a barn on the black board "Pretend it is white." He took his white chalk "pretend this is red." "The white barn has the potential to be red." Why couldn't he just say the black barn has the potential to be white? BECAUSE HE IS A FRIKKIN' MORON AND HORRIBLE LECTURER WHO LACKS COMMON SENSE!)
4.
Capacity he
says, the potency to corrupt,
the man becomes worms.
(Things have the capacity for change and since change is also associated with not existing, i.e. man has the capacity to change thus die, body corrupts, & goes to the worms)
5.
Actualizing,
fulfillment of potency,
Substance not decided.
(Things have the capacity to fulfill potencies [changes], when changes occur, that is actualizing. The substance of change is up in the air)
6.
Form shapes all matter,
A matter-form composite
The fire melts us all
(The form of something [desk-itude] makes up the object [desk], so everything is made up of both matter and form. However, something like fire has the power to change the composite - his example)
7.
Matter is potent
Actuality holds form
Both form and matter linked
(Matter [barn] has the power to actualize change. The actuality holds the form in it; so during the actualizing of a color change.. the form of the barn does not change - only and accidental (specific quality) change occurs. In this way, form and matter are connected)
8.
Intellect abstracts-
Dematerialize things.
World- spiritualized.
(When the mind abstracts [comprehends something] it breaks down the object/matter to its form. In this way the world remains forms and he said something about it being spiritualized, or something)
9.
Atom to Adam
Thought becomes pantheistic
A total tangent.
(I like this one.. it is so arty and poetic. He went off talking about the Atomist and everything being made up of small particles etc. Since everything, including man (adam) is made up of atoms, people think found everything to be made up of god, so thus everything is god.. sort of. Or something like that)
10.
Matter limits all
potency, all subject is
decided matter.
(The properties of things limit its ability to change. Each subject, for instance a tree, is decided matter [this matter is tree-matter]. Because it is "tree-matter" it lacks the potency to become man-matter)
11.
Two acts make two forms
Fundamental act is first,
The first body act.
(This is something he said. I don't remember what he meant by it)
12.
The stool cannot do
the acts that man can complete:
Accidental Forms.
(Reminiscent of the Mr. Filardo stool haiku. Means that a stool cannot walk like a man can; walking is one of man's accidental forms [properties/abilities instilled in man-form])
13.
No pure matter exists,
all matter has been decided.
Matter is in-FORMED.
(There is no matter-matter. All matter is decided, i.e. "tree matter" "man matter" "barn matter." OOH! Double meaning. Matter that has been intellectually decided (informed) becomes form. OOH)
14.
Prime matter is first.
It is already substance.
Form makes principle.
(Prime matter is in each subsance. It makes up the priniciple of the substance, not its touchable/physical essence)
15.
Second matter is
actualized by the form
Now you can touch it.
(Second matter has been changed by the form into something physical. It is no longer a property)
16.
Substance-only form,
lacks potency; incorrupt.
No change is allowed.
(A form that has substance only has no potency and is incapable of corrupting. No change can occur since it lacks potency. Substance only form is only principle. A principle cannot rot and become worms)
17.
Pure acts are not potent,
Aristotle's gods are formed,
Angels to the Christians.
(See above, the forms that lack substance cannot change. These were aristotles gods - the substance only forms. Christians call substance only forms angels).

Actually.. that was a pretty good study tool. They probably make absolutely no sense to people who don't take the class. I may have said some wrong things but what is above is exactly what I got out of Friday's lecture. Mizu may be able to correct me or expand on some of those thoughts. Haha. Even if you don't understand them.. they are still kind of funny.
Anyway.. Nora needs the computer. Blech.
