Ok, I should have posted this all while it was fresh, oops. x_x

Anyway yesterday was the JCL Latin Convention, I volunteered to go. I was the only junior/Latin 3 student. I basically gave over an entire Saturday and decided to wake at 6 AM during the weekend.

Oh.. not to mention stay up till 3 working on a mosaic because I signed up for that category. whoops! good one Sarah. I ended up with a Medusa (that I liked!) and even though it didn't win, I was glad I did it anyway.

The JCL Conventions are the strangest things you will ever see. It was like an inner-city geek convention.. almost. There is something there for every KIND of Latin student. Aside from the academic testing of Latin related knowledge, they have art competitions, drama, horatory, sports, vocal, and instrumental (I believe). During the many hours of free time, they also had karaoke and a talent show. The talent show featured a dance (much like those that make up 95% of SAA talent shows), singing, a comedy routine, and even a karate demonstration. It is one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen in my life.

I was supposed to do Decathalon (10 subjects, 1 test) and Reading Comprehension. I don't think you were supposed to sign up for 2 tests, but I went to reading comp. Everyone was required to take the "Pentathalon" (5 subjects), the first part *felt* easy but after it was over, I realized I made some seriously STUPID errors. Reading comprehension was difficult, I had like 5 Latin passages and I had to read through and answer questions. There was soooo much vocab I didn't know. It was the "advanced" test, for 3 & 4 (level 1 & 2 have their own test). I developed a good strategy though; read the possible answers, look for familiar words, then scan the passage till I found a match. It worked! There was a bonus section for ties, for one thing the passage I think, was the wrong one. It was the right author but the footnotes didn't match and the first question had you determining the meaning of a word that wasn't even there. At least it didn't count, I also think I wrote my answers in the wrong place. Hrm.. that's not very interesting..

Anyway, SAA/SJ did REALLY well for our first year there.

3rd in Volleyball (LMAO!)
2nd in Greek History (Katherine McEnrue is hilarious, she was like, cramming it and studying for it. We hadn't really learned any of it at school. It payed off though.)
2nd in Reading Comp. Level 2
4th & 4th (tie) in Reading Comp. Level 2

::drumroll::

1st in Reading Comp. Level 3 Prose (WOOOOO! I GOT FIRST, THE ONLY FIRST! MWAHAHAHAH!)
oh not to mention 4th for Mosaic (haha!)
And for the most unexpected.. 5th place, Small Chapter. We got a trophy!! We beat 7 schools for that!

We missed 4th by 4 points (actually 2, cos they mistallied two of my points) and passed 6th by 2 (really 4). 6th didn't get a trophy.

I was very pleased. I got 30/35 questions on the test.

It was a strange experience. Think about this, we got 64 (66, sorry I'm not going to let that go) points. The Sweepstakes for large chapter: Clearbrook got 684. Isn't that sick?? It's scary, they had like 100 people. We brought 7.

Yeah.. so that was my Saturday.. nearly wasted.

My life is weird.
